Another go at 한식 (han-shik)

한식 (han-shik) means Korean food. It is the short form of 한국 음식 (han-guk-eum-shik). 

Today I cooked spicy chicken with rice, 닭고기덮밥 (dal-go-gi-deop-bab) with the instant spicy sauce from a Korean mart. What is 닭고기덮밥 (dal-go-gi-deop-bab)? It’s the chicken set we always eat in SG food courts/Korean restaurants.

It was a good attempt, I think, but it didn’t satisfy my Korean food craving. Arrrrgh~~ Been craving for some Korean food these few days, that’s why I headed down to the Korean mart today to see what I can get.

My spicy chicken came out a bit too watery because of the water from the vegetables. But anyways I don’t think the sauce tasted that good. I guess instant sauces always have their limitations. Recently I bought this pre-made stir-fry honey sesame sauce from the supermarket. I don’t know if it’s the flavour or if it’s the quality of the sauce itself, the taste is not bad but it doesn’t suit my taste buds. I might try other flavours next time, but I’m afraid of wasting money again.

OH~! It’s term break next week! It’s only for a week though. Better than nothing. My intention for the break- get a part-time job…. maybe? It’s time to earn some money after so long…

Plus, if I work, I’m going to earn AUD! The currency is so damn strong now man… almost on par with USD. Darn it. It’s good if I’m earning it but definitely not when I’m spending it (which I’m doing so now…)

God of Study 공부의 신

I thought I would do a drama review to keep my blog alive. One of the most recent drama I finished watching is God of Study.

 
This drama is definitely worth watching from ep 1 to 16, especially for students! It will definitely give students a great boost of motivation, at least it did for me. Well probably it’s more suited for high school/secondary school students in terms of the study tips the drama provides but overcoming obstacles is something which everyone faces.

The drama portrayed the lives of 5 high school students who have some of the poorest academic results in one of the worst schools in Seoul. These 5 students, guided by a special mentor played by Kim Sooro, overcame obstacles and worked super hard towards the goal of achieving entry to one of the best Universities in Seoul.

It’s a very heart-warming drama displaying the strength of friendship, mentorship and kinship. I absolutely enjoyed every moments of the drama. LOOOOVE IT! One of the reasons I watched this was because of Kim Sooro who is one of the family cast in Family Outing Season 1. I always thought that he could get this drama character because of his step-mother personality on FO. ^^ And talking about FO, I miss it so so so so much! :( Although there is FO 2, it’s way different… I miss the original Family…

 

On the same day I finished God of Study, I also completed Hi, My Sweetheart, a Taiwanese drama starring Show Luo and Rainie Yang. Can’t believe I actually finished that drama. Lol. It’s pretty lame and cheesy at times but watching LuoZhiXiang acting dumb and nerdy with the ugliest hairstyle of all time entertains me a lot. Haha

Happening things

FINALLY I’ve got some happening things to blog about. Not only about the damn search for tenants which is taking so much of my time!

Anyways lately I’ve been hanging out with some Koreans. Hehe~

I guess I was really desperate in wanting to improve my speech in Korean.. Studying the language alone can only help in my writing but talking to natives will be a lot different. So somehow the mix of randomness, courage and impulsiveness led me to post a message on a Brisbane website for Koreans. In all that Korean words, I posted my message in English asking for a Language exchange partner.

I will teach them English and they will teach me Korean.

The response is like WOW~ I received lots of emails! Because many of the Koreans came to Aus just to study English so they’re really interested in these kind of Language exchange which will help them improve in the language.

So far, I’ve met up with 3 Koreans. ^^ What an experience~!!!

The first one was a Korean girl, C, who was only a year older than me. We met up, had a meal in a Korean restaurant and had coffee after that. We talked about lots of things… from Korea to Singapore, from music to dramas. She really loves Lovers in Paris, the first drama I fell in love with. We also talked about the DBSK and 2PM issue. And after that she said something which I won’t forget… She has a friend who is studying in this high school (in Korea). That friend’s teacher is actually DBSK Changmin’s father!!! I knew Changmin’s father was a teacher (that’s why Changmin always has awesome grades in school. heh) but I was like WOW her friend’s teach is Changmin’s DAD! Many students will go up to Changmin’s dad and tell him, I’m going to marry Changmin one day! And Changmin’s dad would say, “then you have to study hard first…” Haha~ The way C described it was so funny!

The 2nd Korean was a guy, J. He’s a pretty easy-going and nice guy. We had a meal together and it was so funny! He told me about Korean eating customs, about how they would share food on the table. When his meal came, he picked a piece of meat with his chopstick and fed me with it. I was like so damn shocked! In the state of panic, I just went “ oh! orh..” and let him feed me. I felt so embarrassed man!! ><” I thought only boyfriends do that! When I finish chewing, I told him, “전 너무 깜짝 놀랐어요!” meaning “I was so shocked (by his action)!” LOL.. And he was like “Oh I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to. It’s just our culture…” I guess it’s a culture shock for me? :/

Anyways the 3rd Korean was another guy. He’s TALL and quite well-built, I think. We just went to the Library and chat. He’s good because he’ll make me speak in Korean. Sometimes I tend to forget Korean and naturally speak in English. He will put me back on track… :P Oh and he’s quite a lot older than me so he asked me to call him oppa! I’m like errr… and he’s like, “you know in Korea you have to call me oppa, right"?” I went, “yeeeeahh… okaaay…” After that I tried to avoid calling him oppa and called, JH-ssi (Mr. JH)… then he corrected me, “no you have to call me oppa…” Lol. I was like, “errr okaay… oppa (in a tiny voice).. blah blah?” SO DAMN WEIRD to call him oppa when we are not close because I thought you’ll call someone oppa when you’re closer.

Yeah well, it’s fun meeting them! Nice to experience how the Koreans interact with each other. And yes, Koreans LOVE drinking. All 3 I met LOVE to drink! @_@”

I hope I can improve my speech with this though! :) I have more appointments with other Koreans these few days… Will see how it goes…

My blog is pretty dead these days…

Yeah… I should take more photos now that I’ve moved to a new place. Photos of the new place and the beautiful scenery surrounding our apartment. I intended to do so when I’ve found new tenants for my old goddamn place. So till then… wait for me… I can feel the time is near. :P

Alice in Wonderland

 
I’ve finally watched the much hyped-up movie of the year, Alice in Wonderland! It’s been super anticipated since last year, can you believe it? That’s only because this piece of movie features famous duo, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp! The collaboration between these two have been LONG ongoing, so long it goes as far back to me just being in pre-school. It’s just amazing.

Anyways, this film as compared to the duo’s other movies seemed pretty average but it definitely is better than Sweeney Todd. Generally, it’s a fun, quirky, weird-ish, bit of violence here and there kind of movie, which is just totally Tim Burton’s style. It’s the quirky experience you would want to witness when watching a Burton film and he never ceases to amaze with the bit of creativity and out of this world imagination.

I’d say go and watch it with 3D. Experiencing the quirkiness displayed by the famous duo is entertaining and worthwhile. To me, that is. :p

Oh and watching this movie definitely made me want to watch the original Disney cartoon again!! I have the CD at home in SG, so I can’t watch it now… Unless I go online and watch of course. I love Disney’s classics and Alice in Wonderland is one of them. Okay, maybe I’ll watch it in school when I’m free…

First week of classes is finally over! I’d say it’s been pretty crazy in school as this being the 1st semester of the year, more people got enrolled and even more so for the first week as people need to attend classes for decision-making and for course outlines as well. Compared to my previous semester, I’m experiencing an overcrowded-ness feeling in uni! There are sooooooooooooo many people around campus that I just want to go home right after class. ><” I hate crowds.

Hello Sem 2.

It’s been raining almost non-stop for the past 2 days!! I am so sick of RAIN… I want a cool, dry and breezy weather. Not a raining cats and dogs one. But I guess it’s the monsoon season aka autumn for Aus right now? So yeah. But it beats HOT, SCORCHING weather anytime. 

School’s officially started and I’m into the 2nd semester of uni! :) Hiccups! Level of difficulty for Korean has gone up and I’m feeling the stress already. I should not stress myself out when it’s only the first week, but I can’t help feeling like that! :(

I hope taking 3 courses for Korean Language this sem will help compliment each other so that I don’t have to struggle so much especially for my level 3 course. OMG. The level 3 course not only have a few Koreans, but there are Aussies with superb Korean language skills man. *JENGJENG*!!! They can speak very fluently.

Haha. But it’s good because it’ll drive me to study harder! 난 열심히 공부해야 해!!

Also, these past few days been really emotionally upsetting for me. It’s craziness. For now, I will leave it as it is and blog more when everything’s been settled. Sigh.
