More of Brisbane and UQ

UQ’s airport reception and temporary accommodation services sure was efficient. I booked the services online back in SG and within a few working days, they replied me with a confirmation email. The UQ reps for airport reception were in-charge of taking us to our temp accommodation, which was a simple motel that the Uni booked for us.

The UQ reps were very friendly and helpful. Well, actually most of the Aussies I’ve interacted with so far are nice and friendly. ^^

Here are a few snapshots of the Brisbane roads I took from inside the minivan while on the way to our motel.

The motel we stayed in was just a simple affair. It has only two levels so there’s no lift! Mum and I had to carry my super heavy luggage through 2 flights of stairs! Tiring as hell.

There was also another S’porean girl, Eileen, with her family whom we met during the airport reception. She was also staying in the same motel as us. :)

Together with Eileen, her family, my mum and sis, we went to UQ on the first day we arrived to open a bank account.

UQ is gorgeous! Really. I’ve seen pictures of it online but to see it in person is so much better! Though I haven’t really explore the entire school yet (would probably take me some time to do so since it’s huge), the buildings I came across were really nice.

It gives off a very antique, vintage feeling.

About the weather here in Brisbane, although it’s the winter season, it isn’t VERY cold. At least not as cold as Korea. Usually a normal jacket would suffice. Sometimes in the afternoon, one can just wear a t-shirt and pair of jeans out. The atmosphere is really just like air-conditioning, very comfortable and cooling. Some Aussies even wear tank top while outside. The temperature does lower a lot in the night and can get pretty chilly but it’s still tolerable. :)

Here are some pictures of the train stations.

Unlike our MRT, the arrangement of seats in the trains are not consistent. Some seats can be facing the window, some can be facing the front, some facing the back.

Also, unlike S’poreans, the aussies wait patiently for passengers to alight before they board. They just stand by the door and wait for the path to clear before boarding. In SG, before the doors are cleared of passengers, people already start to rush in. I admit I’m guilty of that. Haha. Kiasu okay! :P

More to come soon!
